I wrote this track in the Summer of 2013. It was the last track I wrote for the "Birth EP" on City By Night Records.

I couldn't get the song to fit or really vibe on, and I was going to trash it. I felt it was stagnant and pretty "average". Around this time, Bijou uploaded my track "Birth", which was an early demo, to her YouTube channel 'Fae Child'

I immediately fell in love with her voice and decided to ask her for stems or lyrics or something. She approved and sent me the stems for Essence, and I was floored. I took a couple field recordings of Skype calls, and other things and finished up the track! The EP was then finished.

However, having Bijou on the EP now created my entire idea for formatting the EP to fit a sort of "concept vibe". The idea behind the EP was detachment = rebirth. Letting go, moving on, building yourself up, and restarting.

Essence was the Detachment, the 'Essence' and moment of the feeling of nothingness.
